Make the most of autumn’s fading light and drink in some spectacular views with your cocktail Camitz Vodka
If there’s drinking to be done, best to do it against a stunning skyline. And whether it’s by default or design, hotel bars have the monopoly on amazing views. Here’s three of the best
Clarion Sign STOCKHOLM
33 Östra Järnvägsgatan,
tel. +46 86 769800
Look out over Lake Mälastrand and the city’s northern district. There’s a bit of an ecclesiastical feel to your view here, taking as it does the pretty white Adolf Fredriks church, and the red spires of St Clara’s.
Drink If the sun’s out and the terrace’s cute corner bar is open, a glass of champagne. You can still take your drink up to the roof throughout autumn, but you’ll have to pick something from Aquavit’s menu (no hardship, admittedly). Go for the Aquatini – aquavit infused with lemon and orange, blended with lime, sugar, cranberry juice and Cointreau. Eat With Aquavit on site, it would make more sense to come here for an aperitif or two, then head downstairs for your main course. Pick something locally inflected, like almond milk poached halibut with cauliflower.
Park Hyatt
Conservatory MOSCOW
4 Neglinnaya Street,
tel. +7 495 783 1234
Look out over Some of Moscow’s most famous rooftops. Drink here and you’ll have the Kremlin and the Bolshoi as a backdrop. And quiet at the back, all those people muttering about freezing Moscow winters and alfresco drinks not mixing – should you choose to retreat inside the bar, you’ll still get a great view of them.
Eat Grilled sea bream with fennel and lemon.
Drink Try a Pasadena – gin, Midori and orange juice, finished with a scoop of mango sorbet.
Le Terraza del Urban
MADRID
34 Carrera San Jerónimo,
tel. +917 877770
Look out over The Plaza del Neptuno, the central square pinioned by a huge statue of Neptune.
Eat This being the Spanish capital, you should probably go for some tapas – the ham in particular comes highly recommended.
Drink Vodka mojitos – brown sugar muddled with bruised mint and lime, topped with vodka and served in a martini glass.
This drink is pretty much In Out’s fantasy beverage made flesh. We’re usually a vodkaand-soda sort of page, due to the fact it offers more bang for your buck in calorific terms. But Camitz’s carbonated vodka cuts out the middleman, as it were. You can either drink it straight, with seafood or steak on the side (much better than it sounds, honestly), or have it in a Passion Martini:
Squeeze half a passion fruit into a cocktail shaker and top with one part strawberry liqueur, two parts pear liqueur and two parts lemon juice. Shake with ice, strain into a chilled martini glass and top with four parts Camitz.
