Festival of fashion

October sees Brussels’ fashion festival, Modo Bruxellae, once again take to the capital’s streets. Launched by the Brussels Regional Economy Ministry in 1994, Modo Bruxellae champions both new and established talent and provides budding designers with the practical assistance and resources to establish a career in the industry. Held every two years, it gives designers a platform to showcase their work in galleries, shops and cafes throughout the city. Held from 24 to 26 October, the event this year features over 40 exhibitors and is curated by none other than fashion designer Marina Yee (pictured). Marina was one of the ‘Antwerp Six’, a group of maverick fashion designers that originally put Belgium on the fashion stage in the 1980s.

WATCH THIS SPACE

Founded in 1992 by air and spacecraft designers, Bell and Ross specialise in exceptional quality timepieces that combine meticulous craftsmanship with outstanding style. And their latest ‘Instrument Series’, is no exception. Pairing the Swiss tradition of watch making to the needs of men in extreme circumstances – pilots, astronauts, and even bomb disposal experts – the BR03-92, is a direct replica of a cockpit instrument.

The utilitarian design sports an austere black dial with large luminous blue numbers, also available in yellow, (BR01-92, pictured). bellandross.com

JEAN GENIUS

Henry Holland joins forces with Levi’s on an eight-piece denim capsule collection inspired by Beverley Hills 90210.

The collection has already featured as part of Holland’s spring/ summer 09 London catwalk show.

Fusing Levi’s free-spirited attitude with House of Holland’s cheery rebelliousness, each design is based around Levi’s classic 501 jean and boasts printed and laser-cut styles, striking floral prints and bold polka dots. Levi’s is no stranger to Holland’s aesthetic, with the British designer featuring a series of uncustomised 501 jeans in his autumn/winter 08 LFW show last February. houseofholland.co.uk levis.com

IT’S IN THE BAG

Mulberry mark the launch of this year’s Frieze Art Fair by collaborating with East London’s Fred Gallery on five limited-edition art totes. With Mulberry’s classic Calder bag as base, each tote has been decorated with a unique print by leading British artists (above, from left to right) Peter Jones, Paul Hosking, Philip Jones, Simon English and Kate Davis. Furthermore, whichever lucky customers buy a tote and find a golden ticket inside will win the original artwork by that artist. Mulberry art tote bags, £395. mulberry.com

Just for kicks

Kickers celebrate their 40th birthday by inviting seven leading names in music and fashion to design their own ‘Kick-Hi’ boots. Among those invited were DJs Groove Armada, denim brand Cheap Monday and menswear designer Siv Støldal. There is also a shoe by i-D magazine’s consultant fashion director Simon Foxton, who opted for a simple camel brown and dusty blue boot with bold ‘Foxton’ nametag, together with the Buzzcocks who recreated the punk rebellion of the ’70s, and The Hacienda who pay homage to Kickers as the clubwear of choice in the ’80s. kickers.com

HIP HOP’S TIP-TOP DESIGNER

André Benjamin (a.k.a. André 3000 from Grammy award-winning hip hop group Outkast) has taken time out of recording his third album to design his own clothing line. Entitled Benjamin Bixby and inspired by American college football circa 1935, the 70-piece collection celebrates André’s own off-kilter take on preppy style. Key pieces include a pink roll-neck cardigan with a giant emblazoned B, tweed flat caps, assorted waistcoats, braces, smart outerwear and cropped pants all in super luxurious fabrics and smart tailoring. With a women’s line in the pipeline, inject a touch of André’s rebel gentleman style into your wardrobe.

Wonderbra gets the Dita Von Teese touch

Burlesque queen Dita Von Teese and Wonderbra are a match made in lingerie heaven.

Passionate about lingerie since a young age, Dita has drawn inspiration from her own private collection of ’40s and ’50s lingerie to design three sensual ranges called Multi-Teese, Spot-Teese and Satin-Teese, all in deliciously soft lace. One bra-bottom combo even features a magnetic clip, making daring stripteases of your own a piece of cake. wonderbra.co.uk/dita
